It’s Vlad, founder of Beton. We’re building an open source Clay.com alternative.
It’s been hell of a month, both for me and Beton, and hopefully we’re back on track with regular updates.
It’s pretty easy to fall off a content treadmill — and pretty hard to get back on track.
Company updates
For starters, I went all-in on Beton. Now I’m a full-time founder, so things should accelerate.
On the other hand, I’m talking to 2 potential co-founders for COO/CTO roles and I’m excited about the possibility of either of them joining the company.
Will keep you posted on this.
Traction
Now, we‘ve booked $5200 in revenue on top of $370 that we’ve earned before.
On one hand it’s great news, but on the other — most of it comes from consulting-like GTM work.
While it helps me to bootstrap and stay afloat, these customer are startups.
So it’s not a good ICP fit as we’re steering Beton into enterprise territory.
We’re up to 40 inbound signups at the cloud version of the app + 1-3 inbound demo requests per week.
It’s a good sign in principle, but most of them are from small companies.
Product
I’m tinkering with both inbound and outbound webhooks.
This way, each Beton table would turn into an API that can:
receive new data (e.g. from lead form or n8n workflow)
enrich it and then
send further – to your Saleforce, email sequencer or Google Sheets
Hopefully I’ll get rid of bugs by the mid-November.
My own life with Beton is will be much easier after this release. I hate that I can’t integrate it with my CRM and sender.
Next week’s plans
Advisors
We’re building our advisory board. I think having renowned sales leaders one email away would help me cut corners in customer discovery and structuring Beton’s sales-led GTM motion.
The idea is to reach to folks in cold and offer to lend their ear to me for an hour every 2 weeks for the next 2 years. Beton gets their expertise (and, hopefully, their Rolodex), folks participate in the success they help create with equity.
Sales
We’re prepping a deal with an enterprise fintech.
We’re validating the existence of pain points Beton solves and have already identified a buying committee. Still, this opp might be months away from signing.
Our first mailboxes have finally warmed up, so it’s time to do more cold outreach. I’ve found ~1000 accounts that seem like a perfect fit. Doing account-based marketing for these companies is going to be the main topic of my next “How I spent this winter” essay.
Fundraising
We’ll start raising FFF checks mid-November.
